Teaching Tomorrow’s Family Doctors:
Keeping patients close at heart in the digital era
General Practice/Family Medicine (GP/FM) is vital to a cost-effective, patient-centred healthcare system but faces challenges such as workforce shortages, rising life expectancy and the need for more chronic care and growing demands in diagnostics and treatment.
Digital technologies and AI offer potential solutions but introduce ethical concerns, including privacy, accountability, health equity, sustainability and data management. Their impact on doctor-patient relationships and medical education remains a key question. Telemedicine and virtual reality as examples of innovations from the last decade are already shaping clinical practice and education— but will avatar doctors and teachers be the future?
This fourth conference brings together GP/FM educators across EURACT countries to explore digital advancements in GP/FM practice and medical education while equipping future physicians to address their complexities.
On behalf of EURACT President, we cordially invite you all, teachers, trainers, trainees, general practitioners and family doctors, and also medical students to actively participate in discussions around the subthemes digital patient, physician, learner and educator, in a climate of critical reflection on how to sustain patient-centred medical education in an increasingly digital world.
