Awarded Doctors

Dr. Piet Vanden Bussche

Belgium
  • Piet Vanden Bussche got his interest for quality in a unique mixture from his father (Q manager) and his continuous work as fulltime GP in his practice in Lichtervelde. As a great leader, one of his strongest qualities is a mixture of proudness for what primary care can mean for the patients, and the respect for idealism of family physicians.
  • As president of EQuiP, he was engaged as a trainer in the international summerschools for quality and safety. He was author and collaborator of numerous webinars and presentations during the WONCA conferences.
  • An advocate at Ghent University for Quality of Care, he developed a series of lectures and interactive sessions. He co-initiated the PRICOV-19 study that examines the impact of COVID-19 on the organization, quality and safety of primary care. He managed many projects on Quality and Safety, realised real changes and evolutions in the quality culture for GPs in Flanders. This strength enabled a lot of practices to withstand the enormous stress of the (still active) COVID pandemics.
