In a rapidly digitalising world all modalities known to cardiologists and cardiovascular care institutes are transforming into a digital counterpart. The COVID-pandemic has forced us into a higher gear in implementing the latest tools. Worldwide many centres have offered at least a short period of telerehabilitation.

This webinar series intends to highlight the key possibilities of digital tools for application in preventive cardiology and to apply digital technology to set-up a telerehabilitation program. Digital specialists are brought together to inform you about the latest applications and their personal experiences in applying them.

Target audience

• Cardiologists and physicians involved in preventive cardiology
• Allied professionals involved in cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention of CVD

Format

Online webinar series. Sessions will be given live at a preset time with a possibility for discussion and interaction. Live presence of participants will be encouraged. Sessions will be recorded and can be rewatched after the session.
The course will be interactive. The sessions will be partly presentation and partly discussion with participants and moderators.

Learning objectives

After completing the course, you will:

• Have gained insight in applying digital technologies in prevention and rehabilitation programmes.
• Be able to apply the core concepts for transforming existing prevention and rehabilitation programmes into digital counterparts.
• Know the latest evidence on the digital counterparts of all current cardiac rehabilitation modalities.
• Be able to better identify patients suited for digital prevention and rehabilitation programmes and set correct indications for applying digital technology.
• Have gained insight in the latest evidence in digital prevention and rehabilitation research with applications in big data and artificial intelligence.
• Be able to set up a business plan and perform a health economic analysis of setting up a rehabilitation programme.
• Be able to identify barriers to implementation of the latest digital technology and will be able to identify possible solutions to these barriers.

Speakers

Prof. Dr. Matthias Wilhelm is a clinical cardiologist and researcher. He is head of the Centre for Preventive Cardiology, Sports Medicine, Department of Cardiology at the Inselspital, University Hospital of Bern, Switzerland. From 1999 to 2007 he received post-graduate training in internal medicine, interventional cardiology and electrophysiology at the University Hospital of Erlangen, Germany. From 2008 to 2009 he was head of the Division of Electrophysiology. In 2010 he moved to the Inselspital in Bern with a new focus on preventive cardiology. Since 2015 he is Associate Professor for Cardiology. His research focus is in the field of secondary prevention, including cardiac rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and exercise-induced cardiac remodelling and arrhythmias. Since 2018 he is EAPC board member and currently chair of the EAPC Education Committee. In 2019 his centre received EAPC accreditation for secondary prevention and cardiac rehabilitation.

Prof. Dr. Hareld Kemps is cardiologist at Máxima Medical Center, chairman of the MMC Vitality Center. In addition, he is appointed as associate professor at the department of Industrial Design of Eindhoven University of Technology and member of the daily management team of the Eindhoven Medtech Innovation Center. He has a special interest in designing and implementing new technology and care pathways that will assist cardiovascular patients to manage their disease in their home environment and to guide health care professionals in tailoring treatment strategies to the patients’ needs and expectations. He has been leading and participating in several national and international research projects, (co-) authored > 100 peer-reviewed papers and is supervising 13 PhD students. Currently he is board member of the Dutch Working Group of Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation and member of the Digital Health Committee and the Regulatory Affairs Committee of the European Society of Cardiology. Also, he is consulting editor for The Netherlands Heart Journal and de European Heart Journal – Digital Health.

Prof. Dr. Mamas Mamas trained in Medicine at the University of Oxford, completing his clinical training in 2000. He is a Professor of Cardiology at Keele University and is a practicing interventional cardiologist.

Professor Mamas is an Associate Editor of Circulation Cardiovascular Interventions and a board member of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions, European Society of Cardiology. He is the Clinical Director of the Centre for Prognosis Research at Keele University, and leads a group of clinicians, data scientists and statisticians whose research interests focus around the use of routinely collected electronic healthcare data to inform the diagnosis, treatment and clinical outcomes of real-world patients with cardiovascular disease. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed manuscripts using big data in populations with cardiovascular disease.

Professor Mamas Mamas is an Editorial Board member of Cardiac Failure Review and Interventional Cardiology: Reviews, Research, Resources (ICR3).
