Bandaging with tape or brace is preferable to plaster cast immobilisation and surgery as treatment. Ankle sprains can be perfectly treated by the GP without expensive investigation and treatment. Medical treatment with oral or topical agents (antiinflammatories – NSAIDs) serves little purpose.
